Nearly two-thirds of American Millennials can’t identify what Auschwitz is, according to a 2018 study done by on Schoen Consulting on behalf of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Although the results of the study found that 93% of American adults agree that Holocaust education should be included in what we teach to students, 41% of adults and 46% of Millenials could not identify what Auschwitz is when asked to identify what it s.

Not only could they not identify what Auschwitz is, but 41% of Millenials believe that many fewer than six million were killed during the Holocaust ( those interviewed believed the number was closer to two million or fewer).

This is significantly fewer than the six million who were killed during the Holocaust, according to widely known Holocaust facts.

US Millenials Can’t Identify Auschwitz

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day of the same year the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany commissioned Schoen Consulting to conduct interviews with American adults aged 18 and over.

The consulting firm performed 1,350 interviews with American adults in February 2018 to determine a comprehesnive Holocaust awareness in the United States.

What the study found highlighted a lack of education in Holocaust awareness among American adults, especially in Millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996.
