The Egpytian Pharaohs had many gods and many ceremonies to honor those gods. Some were aimed at pleasing them while others were meant to stave off their incessant anger at their mortal servants. There were however ceremonies which resulted in both pleasure for the god and the Egyptian worshipper. It was a ceremony where Egyptian Pharaohs masturbate into the Nile River.
It all starts with one particularly important god in Egyptian mythology and the significance of creation in Egyptian minds. The Egyptian god Atum created the universe and himself when he masturbated to completion, according to ancient Egyptian mythology.
The Nile River
Look at this image of the Nile River seen running through the city of Cairo. Notice its winding beauty and sizable power. It inspires awe and some other uncertain feelings it seems for the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs.
Take a look at this statue which is a representation of Amun-Min-Kamutef. This name has a meaning. Kamutef means “bull of his mother” and this is symbolic of this god being father and son. It points to the idea of a god’s self creation. This is similar to the other god Atum, the one who masturbated to create the universe.
Notice how he has an erect phallus, now understand that he is a fertility god, makes sense right? It is understood that his right arm is raised in rejoicing. One hand on the lower body and one arm raised in order to “rejoice”, you are staring to get the picture correct?
Masturbating into the Nile was supposed to bring new bounties and success to the Pharaoh. An act of self creation by reenacting the Egyptian god Atum’s pleasuring act upon himself to bring about the universe.
