How Did Anal Probing Become Associated With Alien Abductions?

Written by Ryan Prost

Anal probing is snonymous with alien abductions, but how did become so? You might be tempted to claim the South Park episode “Cartman gets an anal probe”, is the obvious answer but you would be wrong. So then how did anal probing become associated with alien abductions?

The truth is the earliest mainstream account of being anally probed by aliens after being abducted by them dates back to a 1961 incident. The incident is known as the “Hill Abduction” and the “Zeta Reticuli Incident”.

To summarize how did anal probing become associated with alien abductions:

  • A September 1961 alien abduction of Barney and Betty Hill brought the idea of being probed rectally by aliens to mainstream American folklore.
  • Popular media of the anal probing by aliens includes an episode of X-Files which features details of the Hill Abduction. Additionally the South Park episode “Cartmen Gets An Anal Probe”. (Did you know this was the first ever episode of South Park?)

1961 Hill Abduction

Barney and Betty Hill claimed to be abducted on September 19, 1961 near Lancaster, New Hampshire by aliens. These mysterious beings told the couple they were from the Zeta Reticuli star system, approximately 39 light years from Earth.

Barney and Betty Hill, the originally anal probing victims by aliens.

The abduction itself according to their accounts is pretty uneventful. They claim to have encountered a fiery orb which exerted powerful dulling effects on their bodies, interrupting their driving.

But after the couple’s strange experience driving they began to have vivid dreams which they believe were events during their abduction tucked away somewhere in their minds.

It’s in these dreams by Barney Hill, that the first popular alien abduction mentions anal probing.

In Popular Media

Decades later the effects of the Hill incident are still apparent. The X-Files episode,”Jose Chung’s From Outer Space“, mentions it. Joe Rogan’s 2019 interview with Dan Aykroyd also brings up the abduction of the Hills. And then of course there’s the South Park episode from season 1, episode 1, “Cartmen Gets An Anal Probe”, which is actually the series premiere episode.
