Exclusive Interview With History With Kemi

History Addicted: First, who are you and where are you from?

Kemi Akintola: My name is Kemi Akintola, I am a Nigerian. I am currently a student at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, studying History and international studies. I am in my final year.

History Addicted: What made you start historywithkemi.com?

Kemi Akintola: My passion for history made me start historywithkemi.com. As a history student, I realized that history is very important and there is a need to change people’s perspective of history. Most of the time, people feel the study of history is irrelevant. The truth is, in order for us to know where we are going to, we must know where we are coming from.

History Addicted: What do you like most about history?

Kemi Akintola: I would say everything. History is all in one: educative, entertaining, corrective and inspiring. For me, history is a full manual.

History Addicted: Do you think it is important for young people to know history?

Kemi Akintola: Absolutely yes. It’s very important for young people to know history and also learn from it. History is who we are and why we are the way we are.

History Addicted: You have some great African History articles on your site historywithkemi.com. Is there a period of history in Nigeria that most interests you and why?

Kemi Akintola: Thank you. The pre-colonial era of Nigeria (Africa at large) interests me the most. This is because this was a period when the continent was still “virgin” and not yet raped of its beauty. It a pity that most of its history at this period (pre-colonial era) is hidden and needs to be revealed.

History Addicted: Nigeria is actually a federal republic modeled after the United States. What do you feel are the biggest differences in our countries?

Kemi Akintola: Even though Nigeria is a federal republic modeled after the United States, there are clear differences between the two countries.  The United States has only two major political parties while Nigeria on the other hand has more than 20 political parties.

The proportion of seats held by women in the national parliament in the United States is twice of Nigeria. Lastly, I will say that the United States has a stronger democratic tradition than that of Nigeria.

History Addicted: We really enjoy your articles that are lists of unique history facts. For example “10 insane practices of ancient Egyptians”. Are these your favorite kind of articles to write about and why is that.

Kemi Akintola: Yeah I really like writing about facts. This is because people are always fascinated by facts and they tend to remember these kind of articles.

History Addicted: What would you like to say to our audience about your website historywithkemi.com and your Facebook page History With Kemi?

Kemi Akintola: My website historywithkemi.com is a very unique blog. It aims is to reawaken the passion for history and to show how we can learn from history to make good decisions in the present to have a better future. Our Facebook page is very educative and interactive. The page features rare pictures from the past, today in history, “do you know” pieces, and many more.

History Addicted: What is the future of your website historywithkemi.com? Are you planning a podcast maybe?

Kemi Akintola: I see historywithkemi becoming a community of likeminded people. Yes, I am planning on starting a podcast and a YouTube channel and I am hoping it will materialize soon.

History Addicted: How did you find historyaddicted.com?

Kemi Akintola: I came across historyaddicted.com via the Google search engine in 2019. I remembered searching for 50 top history websites and historyaddicted made the list. Ever since then, I haven’t turned my back at the blog.

History Addicted: What do you like most about historyaddicted.com?

Kemi Akintola: Permit me to confess first that I am addicted to History Addicted. History Addicted makes history entertaining and fascinating. And I also like the length of the articles, always precise and easy to understand.
